Dirk Brouwer founded Sequoia in 2002 and continues to act as the firm’s Managing Director. Mr. Brouwer worked in the financial services sector for most of his professional career. He has been involved in over 100 transactions with a combined transaction value in excess of EUR 100 billion in wide variety of industry sectors. As corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions specialist, he has a lot of experience in leading complex (cross-border) M&A transactions, capital markets transactions (both equity and debt), private placements and leveraged buy outs.
Mr. Brouwer co-founded, amongst others, (i) Catalyst Microfinance Investors, (ii) ASA International and (iii) CarbonX and is responsible for each of the firm’s private equity investments.
Prior to Sequoia, Mr. Brouwer was Managing Director and Head of Benelux Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch (London) from 1995-2002 and Director of Investment Banking at PaineWebber (New York/London) from 1987-1995. He started his professional career as an analyst at McKinsey & Co. (Amsterdam) from 1984-1985.
Mr. Brouwer has an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, Palo Alto, California (1987) and a Masters of Economics from the Erasmus University, Rotterdam (1985).
